LOCH KEN – FISHING
Members will be aware that over the past 6 months or so, the SFCA has been engaging with Drax and other key stakeholders around the Loch regarding concerns over access to fishing raised by some members. You will also have hopefully seen our updates on progress by Drax to identify all of the ownership of fishing rights around the Loch and from the very positive meetings that we have had with them and other local stakeholders.
Drax are supportive of responsible, legal and managed fishing on Loch Ken. They have undertaken a significant piece of work to identify all of the ownership of land and fishing rights and to create a new map showing the areas where bank and boat fishing is permitted on Loch Ken. This has been produced in consultation will land owners and owners of fishing rights with their consent. The map also includes details on where to purchase fishing permits and register boats and can be found at Galloway Community Drax UK. This is aimed to be a live document and will be kept up to date by Drax as there are still a number of discussions ongoing with regards to other areas around the loch which may or may not be opened up in the future.
If you live near the Galloway Hydro Scheme and have any questions or concerns about our operations, you can submit them using our contact form. The map and form can be found at Galloway Community Drax UK
