About Course

If you aspire to represent your club or Scotland on the international stage, or if you are already doing so, then you will experience the global anti-doping system.

As your SGB it is our responsibility to provide you with access to the information you need about the global anti-doping system and your role and responsibilities within it.  This includes information about:

  • the Principles of ‘Clean Sport’
  • the Anti-Doping Rules
  • Introduction to Testing
  • Supplement Risks
  • Your Rights & Responsibilities
  • The Testing Process
  • Medicines:
  • Checking Your Medications and
  • The Therapeutic Use Exemption process
  • Global Anti-Doping Framework and Governance

This course has been designed to fulfil that requirement.

We all have a responsibility to protect clean sport. We want to know when we watch or participate in sport that it’s the real deal. Cheating in any form undermines the spirit of sport and the efforts of clean athletes. This applies to every sport, including angling.

Every top athlete will have experienced moments when they are vulnerable and not performing at their best. How athletes deal with these moments can have a significant effect on their future sporting careers.

As an athlete, athlete support personnel (ASP) or sports administrator you have anti-doping responsibilities and a duty to protect and promote clean sport. The Anti-Doping Rules apply to you too – so don’t let one bad decision ruin a potential sporting career.  This short course has been designed to provide you with the information that you need to meet those responsibilities. Throughout each lesson/section there will be embedded links which will take you to further information on UKAD’s own website.  You are encouraged to click these links and read the supplementary information as this will help you gain greater knowledge and understanding and help you to answer the questions at the end of each section.

Athlete Support Personnel (ASPs).  If you work with athletes – whether you are a coach, physio, team support staff or parent/guardian you are classed as ASPs. As ASPs your athletes trust and rely on your expertise, guidance and advice, helping them achieve their sporting goals. With your help and vigilance, we can support athletes in their decision-making and reduce the incidents of both deliberate and inadvertent doping.

All ASP need to know the essential anti-doping practices and tools available, to help ensure athletes remain clean. This is especially important for sports medics and nutritionists, who need to be confident in their practice and advice to athletes at all times.

We know that anti-doping can seem a complicated and daunting subject. Your SGB and UKAD are here to help so if you have any questions or concerns you should in the first instance contact your SGB Anti Doping Lead.
