Strategic Plan

SportScotland wish a strategic plan to be prepared with a view to extended financial support.

Possibilities for the above plan may include:

  1. Restarting the Scotland youth team;
  2. Setting targets for attendances at matches such as the Scottish National and Junior National;
  3. The possibility of holding open days and coaching events.

The question was asked whether the present coaching opportunities could be condensed into crash courses or part-modules to ease the time pressure caused by attendance.

CP will discuss the issue of coaching and open day assistance with the national team members. It was noted that formal certification ultimately seemed inevitable. Awards for All may be able to fund this.

The Strategic plan should cover both 1 year and 4 year objectives.

The 1 year plan requires to be submitted by the end of November 2005 for a meeting on 8th December.

All committee members should suggest any content for the plan they wish included by 1st week in November.

Agreed headings for 1 year plan:

  • Youth development
  • Coaching
  • International team
  • Marketing
  • Politics and policy
  • “other”

More aspirational matters could be reserved for the 4 year plan.

Agreed that the aim should be to hold an open / coaching day in or about Easter.

Agreed that a sub-committee should be formed. George Glen and Rab Lee to be invited to consider joining CP on this. CP to organise.

It was noted that Sport Scotland will not award more than £1000 total for coaching and development, but an further application could then be made to Awards for All.

RW will pull together what info he has gleaned from SANA etc in relation to other such plans, and also observed that:

  1. A catchy name is need for the initiative; and
  2. Further funding may be possible through Tony Andrews and SNAP.

GC will review present marketing material and put a proposal together in relation to what is required.

Correspondence received.

JM reported that a letter had been received from Barony College offering a further training opportunity for angling coaching.

It was agreed that Rab should speak to them in the context of the strategic plan.

An invitation had been received from SportScotland to attend a course of anti-doping in sport workshops. It was agreed that we should politely decline to attend.

Record claims

Carp: 29lb 4oz by Steve Ball at Castle Loch. The scale read at +1.15oz and so the record was accepted at 29lb 2 ½ oz

Golden orfe: the same fish was caught twice and at different weights.

Karl Hudson caught it at Fintry at 7lb 10oz on 25th August 2005. However, the fish was caught again on 18th September 2005 at 8lb 1oz, but the scales were found to be heavy. The new record was accordingly accepted at 7lb 15 ½ oz.

  1. RW reported that the fisheries forum meeting of 12th December 2005 has been postponed.
  1. CP raised the issue of the date and format of the AGM. It was suggested that it may be better supported if it were held a little later in the year. Agreed to move it late April or early May in 2006.
  1. JM raised the issue of the SFCA constitution. Agreed that it requires to be revised and extended. It was noted that there are currently no regulatory powers available to the governing body over the member clubs. It was suggested that there should be an accreditation scheme which clubs should meet when accepted into the federation. JM to draft revisals over the winter.
  1. Child Protection Co-Ordinator:  JM to confirm with RL that he is happy to assume this role which Ken previously held.
  1. GC raised the need for the appointment of a vice chairman as another pair of hands. Clubs should be polled.
  1. The application for membership by PAC seems to have gone into limbo. BL to send them a reminder.
  1. RW raised the issue of the Scottish Executive’s proposed livebaiting ban. Clubs are to be urged to enjoin the consultation. Rab to prepare a draft response as he is best qualified to do so, which individuals and clubs may choose to adopt.
