Monklands CAC Proposal to the

Proposal: Scotland National Team Selection
Monklands CAC would like to propose that the team selection
should be based on annual points system similar to that of the Ryder cup,
(although the Ryder Cup differs in that it is every two years). The manager
would also have two wild card selections where he can either chose anglers who
he feels would benefit from the experience of fishing in one of the smaller
events or would contribute to the major events.
This can easily be achieved with a league system where
ranking points would be awarded at all Federation matches. This would give you
six matches fished on a mix of venues.
Similarly to the league, in the Fed open events the total
number of anglers participating will be split in to four sections and a section
value of the amount of anglers plus two points should awarded to the section
winner and one point less to second and so forth; e.g. in an eight man section
the winner would get 10pts and second 9pts etc. If an angler wins a section
where there are more or less anglers it is only fair that he should be awarded
more or less ranking points.
At the end of the league the 10 anglers with the highest
points and the managers 2 wild card selections would represent the pool of
anglers open to the manager for selection of the national team providing the
meet the current criteria set out just now for selection (Born in Scotland,
Scottish parentage or have resided in Scotland for the last 5 years).
The wild card selections can only be chosen from anglers
who participate in the national league and open competitions.
We appreciate a number of juniors would be fishing in these
matches and they too could be selected for a National junior team under the same
system and criteria.
We think the federation and all clubs in Scotland would
benefit from this selection policy as more anglers would want to take part in
these matches, because if they are successful they will have won the opportunity
to represent their country at a World, European, Six Nations or Celtic Cup
championships.
We believe this system would be a fairer and more
democratic way of selecting the pool of anglers for the manager because he will
have the anglers who have been the most consistent over the previous 12 months.
The system just now does not seem as fair as anglers who
are consistently finishing in the top 10 of our national league competition are
not currently being considered for selection to the national team.
