PRESS RELEASE

UNIFICATION OF NATIONAL GOVERNING BODIES IN ENGLAND

Angling Development Board of Scotland position issued in response to the article in AT on Tuesday 11th March

The Angling Development Board of Scotland, on behalf of all three Scottish Governing Bodies, wish to clarify the Scottish position regarding unification following the publication of the misleading article in AT on Tuesday 11th March.

The three Governing Bodies in Scotland, SFCA, SFSA and SANA would like to assure their members that they have no plans to either form, or subsume into, any single governing body.  At present all three governing bodies are working closely together within the Angling Development Board of Scotland (ADBoS) along with sportscotland looking at all developmental issues concerning angling in Scotland and see no value in following the unification route.

Roger Furness, Vice Chairman FACT and John Mitchell, NFA met recently with all ADBoS members at sportscotland Headquarters in Edinburgh.  The purpose of the meeting was to provide a presentation of the plans for unification in England and to discuss one or two concerns regarding areas of common interest such as; S&TA membership in Scotland, the work of the ACA, minimising impact on the timing of UKCC implementation and the naming of the unified body south of the border to ensure that it reflected its position as a unified English Governing body and not a UK or GB one.  The meeting was very constructive and it was agreed that the two bodies should work together on these key areas.

To reiterate the position of the Scottish Governing Bodies, “We wish all of the parties involved every success with their venture to form a single governing body for all angling in England.  We hope it succeeds in bringing unity to the sport, and as a result is better placed to serve the whole of angling south of the border.  In Scotland however, it is felt that by working together in the ADBoS and by involving all stakeholders we can achieve the same results without the need for a single unified body that could easily become distant and unrepresentative of its members.
