LOWLAND CANAL ANGLING PARTNERSHIP SCOTLAND –
FISHERIES ACTION PLAN

Last year the Scottish Federation for Coarse Angling and British Waterways joined forces to form an organisation called LCAPS. We aim to manage the fishery in the canals to give anglers better fishing.

LCAPS has done a lot of work behind the scenes in 2003, such as providing vital insurance cover for angling on the canals, coaching young anglers, and arranging for some new stock to be put in the Forth & Clyde canal.

Before we go any further, we need to draw up a plan of what we’re trying to achieve in the long term and how we’re going to achieve it. That’s the first thing on the agenda for this year, but we can’t do it alone. We need to know what anglers want, and we want to hear what you and other anglers have to say. So, we’re having an Open Meeting where we can gather ideas and opinions from as many as possible of the people who share an interest in angling on the canals.

The meeting will be at Kirkintilloch Miners Welfare Club, Townhead, Kirkintilloch at 10.00am on Saturday 8th May. Please try to find the time to come along, and please also encourage as many other anglers as possible to take part.

The Open Meeting will finish around 12.30. After a break we will hold the Annual General Meeting of LCAPS, starting at 1.30pm. As this is our first AGM, the business will just be to agree the Constitution, appoint the Committee and approve the accounts for 2003. Copies of the draft Constitution and Statement of Accounts will be available on the day. I hope that angling clubs will be able to send one or more delegates to the AGM, but the most important thing is to come to the Open Meeting in the morning.

The first version our Fisheries Action Plan is available here. This is just the starting point. We will use what people tell us at the meeting to build it into a much more complete picture of where we are going in future. If you are able to come to the meeting, please bring the Plan with you. If you can’t come, please try to find time to tell us by post or e-mail what you think of it.

I would also be very grateful if you can forward this message to other members of your own angling club, post it on club Websites, or do anything at all to publicise the meeting.

Kind regards

Ron Woods
