Jem Paveley and Mrs Altdorfer |
2nd Davie McAuley with Mrs Altdorfer | Andy Roberts with Mrs Altdorfer |
This was the fifth running of this benefit competition at the West Lothian Coarse Anglers water and the result was even better than last year.
Last years winner, Centrals Jem Paveley came out top again on peg 5. Jem fished shortish pole to take a carp of 5lb 2oz (on a roach rig) as well as a goodly amount of the venues big ide, with a smattering of smaller stuff. He finished with a fabulous 29lb 12oz of caster/choppie caught fish. He won a superb DAIWA Matchwinner Powercurve Waggler rod.
Last years runner up also was runner up this year.DAIWA star Dave McAuley has had 1 first, 3 seconds and 1 third in this match, a tremendous record. This time Dave took 20lb 7.5oz of Ide ,Rudd etc from opposite the car park, often fishing his pole at 16m to chase the fish in as little as 18 inches of water.Dave got a very special bottle for his efforts(provided by Gordon Clark). I am sure there is no truth in the rumour that travelling partner Stephen McCaveny nicked the bottle and legged it.
Paul Joyce of Central took third place from the middle of the Dam wall. He had a slow start at about 8m, but perserverance with choppie and caster helped him to finish with 19lb including some very big Ide.
One of the excellent new DAIWA REGAL reels went to the top weight West Lothian Coarse Anglers member. Once again this was Andy Roberts with 11lb 4oz from half way down the far side.
The anglers had a good day with an excellent average weight of 11lb 2oz, on a bright, sunny day (no gear to dry out!) Another £200 was raised for Eliburn Day Centres anglers and staff, bringing the running total to over £1000. The Day Centre passes on its grateful thanks to the competitors and sponsors. DAIWA generously provided packets of hooks to all competitors, as well as the big prize.
Huge thanks to West Lothian Coarse Anglers for donating the venue. The condition of the fish and the fishing itself are a credit to all the hard work WLCA have put in since getting Deans. Also huge thanks to DAIWA their brilliant sponsorship and, more importantly, moral support.
Final thanks to Gordon Clark for his prize again.I wonder if Mr. McCavenys liver will agree.
Karl Altdorfer.
