This was the fourth running of the benefit match at West Lothian Coarse Anglers fishery, and was not only the best yet, but also the tightest!

The recently stocked roach showed in numbers and the man who made the most of them was centrals Jem Paverly on peg three.  Making his debut in this match Jem started at 7 metres but fed the roach in to about three metres by the end. He had a wonderful mainly roach net of 21lb 10.5 ozs on pole, groundbait and casters, to take the shield.

Davie McAuley of Daiwa was so close with an agonising 21lb 9oz of mainly big ide from the shallows on peg twenty. Davie used pole at 14.5 m, choppie and groundbait. In 4 years of this match he has had a first, two seconds and a 6th.  Some record!

Third from peg two next to Jem was West Lothian's Andy Roberts with a cracking pole, maggot, groundbait catch of 18lb 10 oz of mainly roach.

The anglers had a good day with the average weight per competitor being an excellent 10lb 1 oz.

The event raised over £200 for nearby Eliburn day centre, which will help the staff to continue their efforts with angling for their clients.

Massive thanks to West Lothian Coarse Anglers for donating the venue and to Daiwa for some fantastic prizes for the competitors, and Gordon Clark for the cognac, another eagerly fought over prize!
