2002 Summer League Match 2
Sunday 2nd June 2002 - River Endrick, Mains Farm, Near Drymen
 |
 |
| 3rd George Glen, 1st
Stephen McCaveny, 2nd Ewan Weed |
Team Winners Monklands 'A' |
The record books need to be re-written again after an incredible match that
saw the biggest weights in the history of Scottish match fishing as the Endrick
roach responded to the perfect river and weather conditions. The average
catch per angler (including 2 bad pegs in the deeps) was an unbelievable 13.170kg
or 29lb 1/2oz. In two sections weights of over 20lb were last in the
section !
Stephen McCaveny came very close to breaking his own river record with 26.970kg
(59lb 7 1/2oz) from downstream end permanent peg 1. Alternating between 6
metres and 11 metres Stephen kept fish to 1lb coming steadily all day with
caster in groundbait being most effective. He needed every fish to win as
Monklands 'A' teammate Ewan Weed was only one fish behind on 26.820kg (59lb 2oz)
with George Glen third on 21.470kg (47lb 6oz).
Stephen and Ewan helped their Monklands 'A' team to a 2 point margin of
victory over close rivals Monklands 'B' who retain a 4 point lead in the team
league. Ewan takes an early lead in the individual table with two section
wins so far, one point ahead of Stephen, Davie Corcoran and George Glen.
The golden peg pool now stands at £435 and 4 golden pegs were drawn without
a win though Dave McAuley came close in 4th place on one of the golden pegs.
