Federation Cup 2002

5th May - River Endrick, Mains Farm, Near Drymen

1st Stephen McCaveny
27.550 kg
Team Winners
Monklands A
Steve Hunt, Stephen McCaveny, Bryan Hewitt

The 2002 SFCA match season got off to a record breaking start when some huge weights of roach and dace were taken on the River Endrick in a match with an excellent turnout of 47 expectant anglers. Though the match was quite 'peggy' as expected, many double figure weights won no prizes and paled in comparison to the top catches.

Stephen McCaveny led the way with a phenomenal catch of 27.550 kg (60lb 10oz) of quality roach on permanent peg 7 on the bottom bend. This sets a new match record for the river, by a long way, and was the result of a brilliant performance by one of our top matchmen. Stephen attacked the peg with heavy groundbaiting and the roach responded. He took most of the weight fishing 5 sections of pole to hand with caster bait on a size 16 hook.

Steve Hunt was fishing his first match in Scotland since moving up to Ayr, and what a match, as he weighed in 2nd place with 20.900 kg (46lb 1oz) from permanent peg 10. Bryan Hewitt put in a great performance to take 3rd with 13.150 kg (29lb) from peg 12 on the deep bend.

Monklands A (Stephen McCaveny, Dave McAuley, Ewan Weed, Ian Whitson) won the team event with 25kg+ to spare with 58.510 kg, all 4 had double figure catches, but Stephen almost won the team event on his own.

The Golden Peg pool was not won, but what an incentive for future SFCA matches since it now stands at £375.
