Ewan Weed just missed out on being the first winner of the SFCA golden peg prize which, with pools, would have netted him £309, when his Monklands "B" teammate George Glen edged him out of first individual place.
For the first time this year the golden peg was drawn in a strongly fancied area, the far end of the Motorway bank at Forrestburn. 4 good roach in his first 5 casts on the waggler got Ewan off to a flying start. Though his catch rate slowed, he still won the section but was gutted by the news of George's 2.550Kg catch from A section on the North dam.
George took some nice roach early on the long pole with double pinkie over 60/40 groundbait & leam mix. But the crucial difference was a productive 2nd hour on a 4 metre whip catching perch on chopped worm just over some marginal weed cover. 3rd placed Dave McAuley put in yet another good performance near the other end of A section, picking off a lot of small perch on various lines after an initial burst of small roach.
Monklands "B" dominated the team event with an excellent 50 points out of 52, two section firsts and two seconds. JB Dick Clegg were a good second though, 4 points behind. League leaders Monklands "A" did well enough in third place to stay 12 points clear at the top of the Team League Table.
The section win took George Glen to the top of the Individual League Table just one point ahead of Ian Whitson.
