The 40 anglers contesting the 2nd Scottish League match on the Forth & Clyde Canal at Wyndford faced a gruelling 5 hours on a venue that fished much worse than most expected resulting in 19 blanks. Everybody struggled for a bite and only the 5 anglers that framed weighed more than an ounce!
Individual winner Dean Irving of Monklands C included a 3lb bream in has catch of 1.640 Kg, the remainder being small perch. Joker in Sensas Green Leam fed at 14.5metres was the key method for the Scottish International, and the vital bream took worm and bloodworm cocktail bait.
Ian Whitson took the lead in the overall individual league with his second section win and 2nd place on the day with 1.260 Kg. A single tench made up nearly all of his weight and gave Ian a tricky job to land it on the long pole and a light perch rig.
A decent roach taken first cast boosted Tony Ball to 3rd place with 90 grammes and Stephen McCaveny and Davie Corcoran shared 4th place with just 40 grammes each.
Only two teams avoided a blank in a match where, not counting the bream and the tench, the average weight was around half an ounce. Monklands A extended their lead in the league winning the day with 48 points and Monklands E were a close second with 46.
