A great performance by the Scottish team of Chris Paton, Davie Corcoran,
Brian Clark, Anthony Patrick, Ewan Weed and Bobby Marshall, ensured our
best World Championships result since 1993*. Lying in 11th
place after Day one, another consistent display on day 2 helped Scotland
into a well deserved 8th, place gaining a lot of credit for the way
they worked to understand the venue and attack the match.
Scotland did not have one single big fish over the two days. They
correctly read the match as one where 1 kilo would be a good catch and
they devised a method that would almost guarantee plenty of small Perch
from every area. Though some of the team did fish for Bream for short
periods when appropriate, they mainly kept to a disciplined approach and
reaped the benefits . A bit of luck with the Bream could have helped
towards an even better placing.

* Scotland's highest ever placing was 5th in Bulgaria in
1989 (also 6th in 1992, 7th in 1987 and 8th
in 1993). It is arguable that this was possibly Scotland's best
ever performance, given the advancements in the sport in the modern era
and the fact that 36 countries now contest the event instead of 25 in
1989.
