The 2nd 6 Nations Freshwater Angling Championships
will take place on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th August at Willow
Springs Fishery, Llanelli, Wales.
Teams of 6 from Scotland, England, Ireland, Wales, France and
Belgium will contest the 2 day, 4 hour, event after a few days of
practice on the brand new Welsh Federation of Coarse Anglers
fishery. |
The 120 peg lakes have been heavily stocked with around 14 tons of
fish, mainly small bream, tench, roach and small carp. Early match
weights this year were up to 30lb, but recent intensive match pressure has
seen a decline to a 12lb winner. Hopefully a slight rest before the
competition and the fact that the 6 Nations only requires 36 pegs will see
the quality of the fishing shine through again.

5 members of the Scotland team visited the venue last
weekend for a practice. They included Ian Whitson who has has joined
the squad replacing Jimmy Fullerton who has work commitments. Ian is
having a great season in Scotland and hopes to continue his good
form. This is his second International selection, he won his section
on day 2 of the last Home International at Kilbirnie Loch in 1999,
his only International appearance to date.
With few anglers fishing the lakes on the Saturday, the Scottish
team members caught quite well after a slow start. Ewan Weed had
7.800kg (17lb 4oz) and Stephen McCaveny, Davie Corcoran, Ian Whitson
and George Glen had similar catches. Mainly skimmer bream with some
tench. |
