2001 6-Nations Championships -
Port Talbot Docks, Wales : 11/12 August

A last minute change of venue from the salt-water affected Willow Springs fishery to
nearby Port Talbot Docks was enough of a problem, but high winds and rain made
the fishing even more challenging on the 30ft deep docks.
After a close battle among the top teams on day 1, the water conditions
changed on day 2 as the water level dropped and the French and Belgian teams
adapted best. Skimmer bream made up almost all of the catches on day 1,
but they switched off on day 2 and the French showed the way in catching rudd
and roach close in at half-depth.
France ran out comfortable winners over Belgium with Wales showing well again
after winning in 2000 taking the top 2 individuals in Andrew Murphy and Larry
Salter. England suffered a second day collapse to end up 4th, Ireland beat
Scotland into 6th.
Scotland suffered a disastrous start with 5 section 6ths on day 1. They
recovered slightly on day 2 and Stephen McCaveny fished well for second in his
section and 3rd individual place on day 2.
