There is a huge range of tackle available to meet every conceivable eventuality, ranging from very cheap to extremely expensive.
What you will need to get started will largely depend on the type of venue that you intend to fish and the resident species.
To this end the most invaluable piece of advice that I can offer is to contact a reputable local tackle dealer and take their advice.
