My Introduction

'Welcome to a brand new series here on the SFCA website which I hope will keep you entertained and updated with the latest match methods throughout the summer.  I've been fishing in Scotland both for fun and in matches for many years now so many of you may already know me.  However, if you don't I hope the above introduction gives you an idea of what I'm all about.  In other words I'm an out and out match angler.  So it won't surprise you to learn that the main focus of the series will be match fishing but it will contain something for everyone whether you're an occasional pleasure angler or a match fishing die-hard.

The idea for the series came from a regular SFCA surfer who spends most of his spare time scouring the world wide web for tips and views on match angling, amongst other things!  So after visiting several English based sites our man had grown tired of reading about rigs and tactics for venues he had never heard of let alone fished and got in touch.  The SFCA talked me into putting pen to paper and here we are with the opening article and a first for Scotland, a series devoted entirely to match angling.

Over the coming months we'll talk tactics, groundbaits, match preparation and anything else you have a burning desire to learn about our sport. I'll be focusing on the domestic scene by writing on the country's premier match event, the SFCA Scottish League, and giving you an insight into match fishing at the highest level by reporting from this years 6 Nations Championship in Wales and the fantastic World Championship in France. So, whether we're fishing squat on the canal, eeling it on the Clyde or balling it in Paris you'll be the first to know the winning methods (as well as the gossip) at home and abroad.

The series will contain at least 6 articles between now and mid-September which should see us take in most of the years main events. A jam-packed match calendar means that I won't be short of things to write about but I really do want to hear from you if you'd like to see a feature on a particular subject. This means that we can not only concentrate on the subjects you are most interested in, but also keep each article relevant to the matches you are about to fish here in Scotland. With this in mind, please send me a question or make a request, please don't be shy!

As you are reading this you might be thinking ahead to the first league match on Forrestburn reservoir or reflecting on the result.  Like you I'm hoping for a decent match to get the year off to a good start as we've been starved of our usual 'big weight' start to the year on the River Endrick due to Foot & Mouth Disease.  So good luck this week and in whatever other fishing you'll be doing this summer and remember to check out future articles and match results on the SFCA website.  The first full feature of 'Davie's Diary' will be appearing on the site soon, and the topic ... well you tell me!'
