‘Del’s Fresh Produce’ Scottish Canal Championships

Background

2018 sees the inaugural ‘Del’s Fresh Produce’ Scottish Canal Championship take place on the Stables length of the Forth & Clyde Canal, near Kirkintilloch.  Hosted and generously sponsored by Derek Brady the Championships will be run over a series of three matches with a cool £1100 up for grabs.

1st place £500

2nd place £300

3rd place £200

4th place £100

Results will be decided on aggregate weight over the three rounds.

Venue & Dates

For those who have not fished the canal or this particular length before, the Forth and Clyde Canal connects the River Forth Estuary at Grangemouth to the River Clyde Estuary at Bowling, west of Glasgow.  It averages 20mtrs wide and 7-8 ft deep down the boat track.  It is a relatively clear canal with few lochs and low levels of boat traffic, although this has increased in recent years.  The match length will run either side of the road bridge at the Stables Public House (where the A803 crosses the canal).  Parking is in the layby on the opposite side of the road from the Stables Public House.  The pub car park is not to be used.  The stretch holds a good head of small roach, perch, pike as well as tench, eels and a few rudd, although the tench are seldom caught during the day.

Dates for the 3 rounds are:

4th August 2018

11th August 2018

25th August2018

The series will be decided on heaviest aggregate weight over the three rounds.

It is also intended to run open practice matches on the match length on the Saturday’s prior to each round (21st Jul, 4th Aug & 18th Aug) and to offer the opportunity for indivdiuals to come along and ask questions of the more experience anglers.  And of course the Angling Trust and Canal & River Trust UK Canal Pairs qualifier will be taking place on the same stretch on Sat 14th Jul.
