Scottish Junior Open Championships 2001 

Saturday 4th August - Eliburn Reservoir, Livingston

The Scottish Junior Championships were held at Eliburn Res, Livingston, West Lothian with the kind permission of West Lothian Coarse Anglers and West Lothian Council.  It was the first time that a match and keepnets were allowed on the venue.

The match promised to be one full of choices for the anglers with a choice of tactics throughout the venue. Deans, as the venue is known locally, holds double figure carp, tench, orfe, bream, roach, perch, rudd and ide.

The all in was at 10:30am with the all out at 14:30pm, there were 14 anglers taking part this year.

Ross Adamson caught from the off from the unfavoured inlet swim with Grant Clark in one of the favoured pegs at the end of the wooden walkway.

There was only one small carp of 260gms caught by Graeme Hannah; most of the catches were of roach, ide and perch. The stair peg on the point produced the largest fish of the match a 2lb 4oz Tench for Grant Blair.

It was overall a good day with some laughs along the way, one young lad who shall remain nameless, when throwing in some maggots forgot to let go and followed them in, Mother was called to the rescue with some dry clothes.

We would like to thank all those who sponsored the event with donations of tackle prizes, bait, etc. All those who fished on the day received a vast array and variety of prizes, We ended up with 21 lots, including a pole starter kit, whips, reels, keepnets, line, hooks, floats, feeders, caps, riddles, the list goes on…. Daiwa Sports, Thistle Baits, JB Angling, Glasgow Angling Centre, McLeod’s Tackle, Tangles, Mikes Tackle, West Lothian Coarse Anglers.

West Lothian Council and West Lothian Coarse Anglers were pleased by the way the event was run and handled. The SFCA would hope that next years Scottish Junior Championships would be allowed back on the venue.
