Scottish Junior Open Championships 2000

The SFCA Scottish Junior Championships, was held at Clatto
Park, Dundee on Saturday 29th July 00 With entry and bait free
and with a great selection of prizes on offer, no-one was going home empty
handed.
The venue was pegged on the opposite side to the rangers’
station from pegs 1 – 13. The match started at 1400hrs and finished at
1800hrs, the day started off overcast and turned sunny.
Chris Sloss was the first to catch after about 5 mins,
although it took time for the rest to start to catch it turned into a hard
fought battle between the middle four or five pegs. The haul was mainly of small
perch with the odd lager specimen thrown in for good measure. The use of maggot,
pinkie and worm was the call for the day and most were able to catch at some
point, although the use of the waggler probably gave the best results, it was
not possible to determine the leader until around 15mins from the end when Jamie
Hutchinson (pictured) caught a perch of around 350gms, which sealed the match even although
it took him 1 ½ hrs to get his first fish.
The final overall placings were 1st Jamie
Hutchinson 1,670gms, 2nd Chris Calder 1,230gms, and 3rd Chris Sloss
860gms.
There were also two age groups 12-13yrs and 14-18yrs the
placings were as follows: -
12-13yrs. 1st Jamie Hutchinson 1,670gms
(12yrs), 2nd Ross Adamson 840gms (13yrs) and 3rd Graeme
Hannah 370gms (13yrs).
14-18yrs. 1st Chris Calder 1,230gms (15yrs), 2nd
Chris Sloss 860gms (15yrs) and 3rd Mark Lapointe 700gms (16yrs).
With only one dry net out of all the juniors the day was a
great success and plans are already being looked at for next year, and the hunt
is on for our next Scottish Junior Champion.
There were trophies for the overall champion and also 1st,
2nd and 3rd in both age groups with all who attended received prizes
from our sponsors.
Many thanks must go to all the SFCA members and clubs for
their tireless efforts to make the day go smoothly and without any major
problems, they know who they are and are too many to mention, also to our
sponsors which should be named: - Daiwa, Anglerscreel (Dundee), Mikes Tackle
(Edinburgh), Tangles (Broxburn), JB Angling (Kirkintilloch), Macleods tackle (Newarthill),
Scottish Bait Suppliers. For whom great thanks are due for a great selection of
prizes.
