Junior Celtic Cup - Wales v Scotland
Crycceth Fishery, Wales - 30 July 2006

3 years of preparations reached culmination in July when a Scotland Junior Select angling team visited Crycceth Fisheries to take on the confident Welsh in their own backyard. The squad is made up of girls and boys of between 13 and 18 years of age, and although they have been competing regularly in local junior competition at Magiscroft, this was their first taste of international competition.

Watched over by former Scottish Senior Internationals Willie Sinclair and Ronnie Macleod, the Scots put together a sterling performance to come out comprehensive winners by 8 points to 3. Over the 4 hours of competition the 22 anglers of both teams put together a combined weight of 400lbs of fish, an impressive achievement by any standards. Until this event, Scotland had not had representation at Junior level for 14 years.  The team would like to thank all those who supported the team, too many to mention but especially - Daiwa Sports, Scottish Bait Services and Magiscroft Angling Club.

After the undeniable success of this event it is the intention that it will now become an annual event and will be called the The Junior Celtic Cup. Both teams now look forward to the return match next year when the event will be hosted by Scotland.
