| Magiscroft Fishery
Main Loch has been selected by Scotland Team Manager Chris Paton as
the venue for the 2005 6 Nations International Championships.
Chris said - 'The fishing on the Main Loch is getting better and
better and is the best choice to cope with a big International. With
it's excellent facilities and infrastructure, Magiscroft is the right
place to host such a prestigious event'.

Magiscroft is Scotland’s first and only
major commercial fishery dedicated to coarse fishing. The 17-acre site was
a former sand quarry which was transformed in 2002 into three very
different lakes with a wide variety of fish species. The fishery building
includes a dedicated tackle shop and café with convenient car parking.
The Main Loch will be the venue for the 6
Nations and is 4 acres in size with 50 pegs. The fish species are Bream,
Ide, Carp, Roach, Perch, Rudd, Tench, Eels, Gudgeon, Dace, Chub And Pike.
Summer matches are won with weights of
between 5 and 15 kilos. Small Bream (150-200g), Ide (100-200g) and Carp
(200-500g) are the fish that mainly make up match catches though bigger
specimens often add to the catches.
Depths vary around the loch, shallow close
in, sloping out to between 2.5 metres and 5 metres deep at 13 metres and
up to 6 metres deep in the middle.
