COVID-19 Update Guidance – 3 July 2020

I am sure that anglers, clubs and Fisheries across Scotland will, like us, have welcomed the First Minister’s announcement yesterday of the lifting of the travel restrictions for recreational and sporting activity.  Many individuals will be looking forward to the increased opportunities to participate in angling that this will afford, and many businesses and fisheries will be getting ready to welcoming back more anglers from further afield.

All of this is good news, and across Scotland we definitely seem to be heading in the right direction.  It must however be stressed that we are not out of the woods yet.  These are just the first steps on the pathway out of lock-down and to the full resumption of our sport.  Public health and well-being remains the most pressing priority and we all have a responsibility to do what we can to continue to suppress the spread of the virus.  It is for this reason that the First Minister continues to adopt a cautious approach and you will have seen the announcements of the precautionary re-introduction of lock-down measures in Dumfries & Galloway and the Annan and Gretna areas, where the 5 mile travel restriction remains in force.

Therefore, while the Scottish Government has removed the travel restriction for recreational and sporting activity from 3rd July 2020. We are still strongly encouraging individuals to only travel as far as is necessary to participate in angling activities.  Also, until the restrictions in the South West are relaxed, we have been asked to remind anglers that they should not be travelling into areas where restrictions remain in place for any recreational or sporting activity, and that anglers living in those areas should continue to comply with the local travel (broadly 5 miles) restriction.   Hopefully these restrictions will be able to be lifted soon once Track and Trace activities are complete and it is considered safe to do so.  There is however no guarantee that we won’t see other outbreaks in the coming weeks and months, with restrictions being re-introduced in other areas.  We will endeavour to keep you up to date with changes as and when they occur both on this SFCA website, the Angling Scotland website and the various social media platforms.
