First Minister Announces return of Recreational Angling

We welcome the news that Angling has been allowed from Friday 29th May as part of the Scottish Government’s phase 1 lock down relaxation approach. Our guidance to both Anglers and Fisheries was well received by Sportscotland and The Scottish Government who we will continue to work with as we progress through Scotland’s Route Map.  We would like to remind everyone that we have not yet received approval for a return of matches but have developed and are consulting on guidelines which will hopefully see a return to competitive angling in the not too distant future.  More to follow on this in the coming days.

Working with our partners within Angling Scotland we have made a few changes to the guidance, which can be found by clicking the link below, so please familiarise yourself with it before going out fishing.

ASL-Covid-Guidelines-Phase-v1.6

Please help us to get this guidance to everyone who needs it by sharing this as widely as you can.

Please also ensure that your read an comply with the Scottish Government’s general guidance COVID-19 – Staying at home and away from others so that we can get back to doing what we love, as safely as possible.

Please stay local when travelling to fish and try to use 5 miles as a guide.  The First Minister went to length to say that this was not a fixed distance but asked everyone to use their judgement.  Our advice is that anglers should only be travelling far enough to fish their nearest water on no further in this stage.

Tight Lines,

Gus Brindle, Chairman SFCA
