SFCA Junior Development and Outreach

SFCA Junior Development and Outreach.

The SFCA will be running informal junior development sessions at four coarse fisheries in Scotland this year to help develop up-and-coming junior anglers to competition level and ultimately represent Scotland.  The aim of each session is to identify existing young coarse anglers across Scotland thinking about taking coarse fishing to a next stage of competing locally at club level, or even higher at International level.  The sessions will be managed and delivered by the SFCA using fully qualified angling coaches as well as current and former International anglers.

Scotland Juniors have a significant international presence with two out of three wins at the Celtic Cup in the last three years.  In 2014 Scotland fielded an under 23 team at the Youth World Championships for the first time in The Netherlands near Assen.  Building on those successes we hope to develop a broader pool of talented young anglers who aspire to the International Team.  Exciting prospects for the future include Celtic Cup selection to go to Ireland (July 2015)and at home (2016) as well as taking on the rest of the world at future World Championships in Portugal (2016) and Ireland (2017).

If you are under 18 and would like learn more about match fishing or want to fish for Scotland please ask your parent or guardian to contact the SFCA Child Protection Officer and Junior Team Manager, Allan Pellow, at cpo@sfca.co.uk to register your place.  Entry is free to anyone under 18 years. You will need your parent or guardian to arrange travel and be present during the sessions.  Juniors are welcome to come along to one or all of the events.
