Howco Metals Management Sponsor Scottish U23s

The Scottish Federation for Coarse Angling is delighted to announce a partnership with Cumbernauld based Howco Metals Management.  The new one year sponsorship arrangement is a key factor in allowing the Scotland under 23 team a chance to test themselves at their first World Championship in Holland at the end of the month.

Howco Youth Team Scotland will travel out on 19th July for four days practice before the main event which will be held on 25th and 26th July on the Noord Willemskanaal near Assen.  It is expected that more than 24 teams from around the world will compete in this the 28th Coarse Angling Youth World Championship and with Howco Youth Team Scotland entering for the first time there may be a few surprises.   The junior anglers are on the ascendancy after winning the Celtic Cup in 2012 and coming a very close 2nd place to Wales in 2013.  The anglers, Josh Trueman, Peter Dick, John Baird, Dylan Duncan and James Dornom are excited at the prospect of taking on the world and are ”Ready to go for Howco and Scotland”.

A Team spokesperson highlighted that taking part in this event is costing approximately £5500 and the new partnership with Howco Metals Management eases the financial burden on the young anglers allowing them to concentrate on the task at hand.  “To win a World Championship as a team takes years of individual dedication to the sport followed by years of team work.  We are on our way to a bright future and look forward to doing our best this year and in the years to come on the world stage”.

SFCA Chairman and Senior Team Coach, Gus Brindle said, “Our Junior Anglers have delivered some outstanding performance in the Celtic Cup competitions at home and away in recent years and the older members of the squad deserve their chance to represent their country at the highest level.  For the past three years it has been our aspiration as a SGB to provide them that opportunity, but we have not been able to overcome the financial barrier to participation.  With the financial sponsorship from Howco Metals Management we have finally been able to bridge the gap and I am sure that everyone will join with me in wishing them every success later this month.”

The introduction of the Under 23 Team to represent Scotland at the 28th Youth World Championship to be held in Assen, Holland on 25th and 26th July is the culmination of a significant amount of work by not only the anglers but everyone who has been involved with the junior squad in recent years.  For the SFCA, and indeed for Coarse Angling in Scotland as a whole, it represents a landmark in our structured development of young talent and, with several of these anglers moving directly on to represent the Senior Team at the Celtic Cup in August, underpins our progression pathway from junior angler to full international.
