Team Scotland had mixed fortunes on the first day of the World Championship Finals on the Ostellato Canal today ending the day 17th out of the 36 teams competing.

A full set of results for both days will be published on the website on our return to Scotland on Wednesday.

The Italian Team, as expected currently top the field with an incredible 9 points, although they didn’t have things all their own way and Holland ended day 1 only two points behind on 11.

Hungary are currently sitting third on 16 points with Belgium 4th on 16 points and England 5th on 20 points.  Of the Celtic nations Wales top the field and are currently sitting in 9th position on 38 points.

While there is an 8 position gap to Scotland in 17th only 9 points separate the teams and there is everything to fish for tomorrow.

On an even more positive note, Jamie Masson currently tops the Individual Table having made the best of an end peg draw in A section to again win both his section and the match overall for the second year running with a weight of 25kg 580g.

Other Scotland results were;

  • B section, Colin McKerrell  – 9 points
  • C Section, James Woodrow – 8 points
  • D section, Brian Clark – 12 points
  • E Section, David Corcoran – 17 points

Unfortunately David suffered an awful draw today and will make way for Ewan Weed for Day 2.

Tight Lines,

Gus
